26 Attorneys General from various states are suing the Federal Government over Biden's "rule", which restricts law-abiding Americans' ability to purchase and sell firearms, without asking permission of the government.

Attorney General Ken Paxton, of Texas, is leading a coalition Attorneys General of 26 states in suing the Biden administration over what Paxton called "Biden’s unlawful ban on firearms sales to private individuals". Paxton leads a coalition of Attorneys General from 26 states, including Utah, Texas and Louisiana, who are suing the B.A.T.F. The U.S. Department of Justice is being sued for "unlawfully trying to limit the Constitutional rights of Americans to buy and sell guns privately".

Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes stated "Nearly 40 years ago, Congress condemned ATF because it targeted innocent gun owners rather than focusing on felons. ATF's action was called by ATF to be illegal."reprehensible". Congress changed the law in 1986, passing the Firearms Owners Protection Act to limit ATF authority. "But ATF has done it again. This time, they are trying to require aCitizens selling even one firearm must obtain a permit. Utah is proud to be one of 26 states that have filed three lawsuits protecting their citizens against this bureaucraticoverreach.".
